Frequent Ask Questions

What is Bali Palms?

Bali Palms is a private wellness retreat nestled in the lush foothills of Mount Batukaru in West Bali’s Tabanan Regency — far from the crowds, deep in the jungle, and entirely focused on you.

Our mission is simple: to offer an unparalleled retreat experience that combines genuine comfort within Bali’s remote jungle setting — enriching the mind, body, and soul through holistic practices, authentic local culture, and personalized care.

Whether you’re seeking relaxation, rejuvenation, reflection, or gentle exploration, our carefully crafted packages ensure your time here is meaningful and memorable. We are not a typical hotel — we are a home away from home.

Where Are You Located?

We are situated in the Tabanan Regency in West Bali, tucked into the foothills of Mount Batukaru — one of Bali’s most sacred and beautiful mountains. We are intentionally off the beaten track: approximately 40 minutes from the town of Tabanan, and around 2½ hours from Ngurah Rai International Airport (similar to the journey to Ubud, depending on traffic — a phrase you will hear often in Indonesia!).

This is a destination for guests who want to truly escape. If you’re looking for a party atmosphere or easy access to nightlife, this is probably not the right fit. But if you’re looking for peace, nature, and a genuine sense of sanctuary — you’ve found it.

Note: Our property sits on natural terrain with small inclines and steps between cabins. We are not currently wheelchair accessible, though we are always happy to offer assistance where we can.

What Does a Stay at Bali Palms Include?

All of our packages are pre-configured to offer the best possible value, and each includes:
Private cabin accommodation (single or double occupancy)
All meals — a thoughtfully curated daily menu using fresh produce from our property and local markets
Return airport transfers and transport to/from your destinations in Bali (within a 50 km radius)
Daily yoga and meditation — twice-daily vinyasa flow classes including Yin and restorative yoga, suitable for all levels from complete beginners to advanced practitioners
A Balinese massage — to release tension and reconnect with your body
Selected activities depending on your chosen package (additional activities can be added on request)

Our packages range from 4 days/3 nights to 7 days/6 nights, with the option to add extra nights on either side — especially useful if you’re travelling from overseas and want to ease into your retreat.

Complimentary pre-retreat night: Based on guest feedback, we currently offer a complimentary night-only stay the evening before your retreat begins — perfect for late international arrivals. We also do our best to accommodate early check-ins and late check-outs.

Please note: Base packages cannot be modified, but additional activities and extra nights can be added at the regular guest rate.

What are the Mind, Body & Soul Packages?

Our core retreat packages — each named around the Mind, Body & Soul philosophy — are meticulously crafted holistic journeys. They combine private accommodation, full-board dining, yoga, meditation, massage, and authentic Balinese experiences to help you rest, reset, and reconnect.

Many retreats also include deeply personal interactions with local Balinese healers and traditional spiritual practices that are unique to this part of the world.

We have recently upgraded our cabin amenities to include high-performance hairdryers, scent diffusers, and additional refreshments — because the details matter.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like?

Every day at Bali Palms has a gentle rhythm — structured enough to feel purposeful, flexible enough to feel like a holiday. Here’s a sense of what to expect:

Time Details
~7:00 AM Morning yoga or meditation session — a peaceful start in an open-air setting surrounded by nature
~8:30 AM Breakfast — fresh, nourishing, and unhurried
Mid-morning Guided activity, excursion, or free time to explore the gardens, rest in a gazebo, or take a dip in the pool
~1:00 PM Lunch
Afternoon Cultural experience, Balinese healing session, nature walk, or personal downtime
~4:30 PM Evening yoga or restorative session
~7:00 PM Dinner — often a convivial, shared atmosphere in the restaurant
Evening Books, games, quiet conversation, or simply the sounds of the jungle

Quiet time begins at 9pm, so evenings naturally wind down into restful sleep.
Activities vary by package and day. The full schedule for your chosen retreat is shared with you before arrival.

Is This Right for Me if I’m New to Yoga or Wellness Retreats?

Absolutely — and you’re in good company. Many of our guests arrive having never attended a yoga class, never visited Bali, or feeling a little uncertain about whether a “retreat” is really for them.

Bali Palms is not a place of pressure, performance, or spiritual jargon. It is a genuinely welcoming environment where the pace is set by you, the food is delicious, the setting is extraordinary, and the staff genuinely care. If you leave feeling rested, restored, and glad you came — we’ve done our job.

Do I Have to Participate in Everything?

No. While we have crafted each package to offer the best possible experience, participation in any activity is always your choice. If you’d rather spend a morning in a hammock reading instead of attending a session, that is entirely up to you. We believe wellness looks different for everyone, and we will never make you feel obligated.

I’m Travelling Solo — Will I Fit In?

Solo travellers are among our most frequent and most enthusiastic guests. Coming alone is often the best way to get the most from a retreat — you set your own pace, you connect with others on your own terms, and you leave with the full experience.

Our intimate size (a maximum of 11 cabins) means the atmosphere is naturally warm and social without being overwhelming. Solo guests consistently tell us they leave with new friendships and a sense of community they didn’t expect.

What Fitness Level Is Required for Yoga?

None at all. Our classes are designed for everybody and every level — from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. Our teachers will guide you at your own pace, and no prior yoga experience is required or expected.

What About Couples or Groups Where People Want Different Things?

This is more common than you might think. If one of you wants to immerse fully in the retreat program and the other wants to relax, read, swim, and enjoy the food — both are equally valid ways to spend your time here. You are welcome to add extra activities or simply enjoy the property at your own rhythm while your travel companion does the same.

For groups who want to fill the entire property for added privacy and personalization, we cater to that too — get in touch to discuss options.

What Makes Dining at Bali Palms Special?

Food at Bali Palms is part of the experience, not an afterthought.

Our menus rotate daily and are built around fresh, seasonal produce — much of it grown or raised on our own property, with the rest sourced from local markets. We are quietly proud of our commitment to genuine farm-to-table cooking, including our fresh-water crayfish (yes, it really does taste like lobster) available with advance notice from our gourmet menu.

What’s always included ?

  • A complimentary self-service station with water, Balinese tea, coffee, and fresh seasonal fruits — available at all times
  • Freshly brewed custom coffee on request (additional charge)
  • Canned sodas and basic alcoholic beverages available on request (additional charge)
  • Restaurant hours: 8am – 9pm, with our team happy to assist with anything you need
  • Our restaurant and pool area are the natural heart of the property — warm, open, and stocked with books, board games, and a pool table for when you want to unwind socially.

Can You Cater to Dietary Restrictions or Allergies?

Absolutely. Please inform us of any requirements — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, nut allergies, or otherwise — on your booking form, and our kitchen team will ensure your meals are prepared safely and deliciously throughout your stay.

Is the Food and Water Safe?

Yes. All drinking water served at Bali Palms is filtered and safe. Our kitchen operates to high hygiene standards and uses fresh, carefully sourced ingredients — much of it from our own property. “Bali Belly” (a digestive upset common among travellers who eat from street stalls or drink tap water) is a genuine concern for visitors to the island, but it is not something our guests typically experience here. If you have a sensitive stomach, simply let us know and we will take extra care with your meals.

What Are the Cabins Like?

We have 11 private cabins spread across our five-acre property, each with a balcony and views over our tropical gardens, ponds, and the small river and waterfall at the base of the property.
9 King Bed Cabins and 2 Twin Bed Cabins (approximately 36 square metres each)
Each cabin is designed for 1–2 guests (a third bed can be arranged on request)
Quiet gazebos are positioned throughout the gardens — ideal for reading, reflecting, or an outdoor massage
There are no televisions — we find guests don’t miss them
A quiet period is observed from 9pm, and music or noise above a considerate level is not permitted after 10pm, out of respect for our guests and our neighbours
.

Is There Wi-Fi? What About Power Outages?

Connectivity is better than you might expect for a jungle retreat.

We have our own on-site diesel generator, so in the unlikely event of a power disruption, we’re back online within minutes. Our internet is fed via a fibre-optic connection to a network of boosters and routers across the property — most guests find the speeds comparable to city hotels, and video calls are easily managed. The only exception is the most remote corners of the grounds.

We gently encourage a degree of digital detox during your stay — but we understand the real world doesn’t always allow it.

What Is the Weather Like?

Bali Palms sits at a higher elevation than the coastal areas, resulting in a lush, tropical climate that tends to be slightly cooler and greener.

Year-round temperatures: roughly 24°C to 30°C
Dry Season: typically April – October
Wet Season: typically November – March — expect higher humidity and frequent short, heavy afternoon or evening showers that keep the jungle brilliantly green

We recommend checking a 10-day forecast closer to your travel date. Whatever the season, pack light, breathable clothing and a layer for the evenings.

A note on lightning: During the wet season, tropical storms can bring thunder and lightning — normal for this part of the world and usually brief. During these periods, please avoid open areas and the pool. As an added precaution, the property has a lightning rod tower adjacent to the grounds (thankfully never needed to date).

What About Mosquitoes and Insects?

We are nestled in a lush jungle environment, so insects are a natural part of the setting. We recommend bringing a good insect repellent and applying it during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active. Dengue fever, which is transmitted by daytime mosquitoes, is present in Bali — particularly during the wet season — so repellent is genuinely important rather than just a precaution. Our cabins and common areas are designed to minimize exposure, and we keep the grounds well maintained. If you have any concerns, please speak with a travel health clinic before your trip.

What Vaccinations or Health Precautions Should I Take?

We are not medical professionals and can’t give personal health advice, but we do recommend consulting your doctor or a travel health clinic before travelling to Bali. Depending on your health history and plans, they may suggest precautions relating to hepatitis, typhoid, tetanus, or other considerations. This is good practice for any international travel and will give you peace of mind before you arrive.

Do I Need a Visa to Visit Bali?

Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Many countries are eligible for Visa-Free entry or a Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) into Indonesia, but the rules do change and it’s important to check the current requirements for your passport well before travel. We recommend visiting the official Indonesian immigration website or contacting your nearest Indonesian embassy or consulate to confirm what you need. If you have any questions, we are always happy to help point you in the right direction.

Should I Get Travel Insurance?

Yes — we strongly encourage it. Unexpected situations can happen anywhere, and travel insurance that covers medical treatment, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation, and loss of belongings is well worth having, particularly for international travel. This is especially relevant for Bali, where the nearest major medical facilities may be some distance away. Please arrange this before you depart.

What Should I Pack?

For activities: Lightweight, breathable activewear for yoga and meditation; comfortable trainers or walking shoes for nature walks and excursions (such as the rice field and waterfall trek).

For leisure: Swimwear for the pool, sandals or flip-flops, and comfortable casual clothing for dining and relaxing.

Essentials:

Reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
Insect repellent — important, not optional
A universal travel adapter (Indonesia uses Type C/F plugs)
Passport, visa documentation, and travel insurance details
Any personal medications you require

Optional but useful:

A sarong — versatile for temple visits, the pool, or the beach
A light cardigan or layer for evenings, particularly in the wet season
A power bank for day excursions.

Are There Any Hidden Extras I Should Budget For?

We believe in transparency. Here is a clear summary of what is and isn’t included in your package:

Included in all packages:

Accommodation, all daily meals, return airport transfers, yoga and meditation sessions, and a Balinese massage

Available at an additional charge:

Extra activities (added on-site or pre-booked)
Freshly brewed specialty coffee, canned drinks, and alcoholic beverages
Additional spa treatments
Any meals or snacks outside the standard menu
Laundry service

Not available at the property:

We do not have an on-site shop, but our team can assist with any local purchases or errands

If you’re ever unsure whether something is included, just ask — we’d rather clarify upfront than have any surprises.

Is There a Laundry Service?

Yes. Laundry service is available on-site for a small charge. Please speak with our team on arrival and allow approximately 48 hours for return. We recommend packing enough for 3–4 days if you’re on a longer stay.

Can I Extend My Stay Once I’m There?

We always do our best to accommodate guests who fall in love with Bali Palms and want to stay longer. Subject to availability, additional nights can be arranged on-site at the regular guest rate. If you think you might want to extend, it’s worth mentioning at booking so we can do our best to hold the dates.

What Is Your Smoking Policy?

Smoking is not permitted in cabins, the restaurant area or during any group activities. A designated outdoor smoking area is available on the property. We kindly ask all guests to be considerate of others.

How Do We Get There?

We strongly recommend letting us arrange your transfers — the roads to Bali Palms are beautiful but winding, and getting lost is genuinely easy. All packages include complimentary return car transfers to and from your Bali destinations within a 50 km radius.

For those arranging their own transport, we will of course provide full directions on booking.

Will I Be Safe?

Your safety and comfort are our priority at all times.

A security team member is on duty at the front gate from 6pm to 6am while guests are on site
A member of our management team is on-site around the clock
Our on-site operational number is available 24/7 in English and Bahasa Indonesia — provided to all guests on arrival
For anything urgent: WhatsApp or call +62 811 3888 829 at any time

Solo travellers are warmly welcomed. We do everything we can to ensure you feel safe and supported throughout your stay.

What If I Get Sick?

We treat everyone here as part of the family. Basic first aid is available on-site. For anything more serious, we will arrange for a medical professional to visit you, or accompany you to the nearest hospital in Tabanan (approximately 40 minutes away). The Kuta area, while further, also offers a wide range of medical and dental services for international travellers.

A Little About Balinese Culture — What Should I Know?

Bali is a deeply spiritual island with a living Hindu-Balinese culture, and being a respectful guest is something we take seriously. You don’t need to worry — our team will guide you — but a few things are worth knowing:

Temple visits: If you visit a temple during your stay, you will need to wear a sarong and have your shoulders covered. Sarongs are usually available to borrow or rent on-site at temples.
Offerings: You will see small offerings (Canang Sari) placed throughout the property and on the streets — these are sacred. Please step around rather than over them.
Ceremonies: Bali’s ceremonial calendar is rich and active. If we are able to take you to a local ceremony during your stay, it is a genuine privilege — please follow your guide’s lead on appropriate behavior and dress.
Nyepi (Day of Silence): Once a year, Bali observes Nyepi — a day of complete silence, fasting, and reflection. The entire island shuts down, including the airport. We do not accommodate check-ins or check-outs on this date, so please factor it into your travel planning.

We are proud of our relationships with the local community and believe that cultural respect is part of what makes a stay at Bali Palms genuinely meaningful.

What Are the Check-In and Check-Out Times?

Check-in: from 2:00 PM
Check-out: by 12:00 PM
Late check-out (until 3:00 PM) may be available on request, subject to availability. Check-outs after 3:00 PM will be charged as an additional night.

Please note: We do not normally accommodate arrivals or departures on New Year’s Eve/Day (Dec 31 – Jan 1) or Nyepi (Balinese Day of Silence). Please plan your travel around these dates.

Do You Welcome Children?

Our property includes natural water features — ponds, a river — as well as steep inclines, so children require careful supervision at all times. Children are welcome by prior arrangement only, and guests must be a minimum of 12 years of age to participate in the retreat program.

Children 5 and under stay free of charge
Children 6 and above are priced as adults
Please let us know in advance so we can prepare appropriately
Parents are fully responsible for their children’s safety and behavior throughout the stay

Can I Bring My Pet?

Small, friendly pets are welcome by prior arrangement.

Please bring a leash; pets should remain inside the cabin overnight and off the furniture
We’ll provide towels and bowls to help your pet feel at home
Pets must not disturb other guests or the peaceful atmosphere of the retreat
Pet safety and care remain the owner’s responsibility throughout the stay

How Does Pricing Work?

Our packages represent the best value available — and we can guarantee our website pricing (www.balipalms.com) is always better than third-party booking platforms.

Each package is built around a per-night per-cabin rate (for 1–2 guests), bundled with transport, meals, and selected activities, then discounted to reflect the full package value. Packages run from 4 days/3 nights to 7 days/6 nights, with the option to add extra nights or activities at regular guest rates.

If you’d prefer to build a custom itinerary, simply select your dates and we’ll help you design and price something that works for you. For advice or a quote, email us at reservations@balipalms.com.

Activity and additional night pricing is listed on our website and fixed at the time of booking, though subject to change for future availability.

What Are the Booking and Cancellation Conditions?

When booking directly via www.balipalms.com:

A deposit of approximately 30% of the package price is required to secure your booking
The balance is due on arrival
Cancellation 30+ days before arrival: 100% refund of all payments made
Cancellation within 30 days of arrival: The 30% deposit is non-refundable; if you paid in full, 70% of the total is refunded
No-shows: Advance payments are non-refundable

To cancel, please email us as soon as possible at reservations@balipalms.com. You’ll receive a confirmation once your cancellation is processed.

Online booking platforms may have their own cancellation policies, over which we have very limited control — please check at the time of booking.

How Are Refunds Processed?

Refunds from us are returned automatically to the original payment method (credit card, PayPal, or bank transfer). We process these on our end immediately, though banks typically take 5–10 business days to reflect the balance. We appreciate your patience.

Should I Bring Cash? Are Credit Cards Accepted?

Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) are accepted for settling the balance and any additional charges on departure
Cash (Indonesian Rupiah) is useful for small purchases in local villages or any non-included extras
ATMs: There are no ATMs nearby — we recommend withdrawing cash at the airport or in a major town before your transfer. For currency exchange, the airport and major tourist areas generally offer reliable and competitive options; avoid unlicensed street money changer
.

What Makes Our Team Special?

Most of our staff are from the local community — warm, proud, and genuinely delighted to share Balinese hospitality with our guests. Some speak English; communication is rarely an issue, and we are always happy to help bridge any gaps.

Supporting the local community is one of our core values. If you’d like to give back during your stay — through a beach clean-up, a visit to a local school, or attending a traditional ceremony — please let us know and we will do our best to arrange it.

Can Bali Palms Host Special Events?

Yes. With over five acres of tropical grounds, 11 private cabins, and a dedicated restaurant and pool area, Bali Palms is an exceptional setting for:

Weddings and intimate celebrations
Corporate retreats and team events
Group gatherings and private buyouts

If your group is large enough to fill the property, you’ll have the added benefit of complete privacy and a fully personalized experience. Get in touch at reservations@balipalms.com to discuss your needs.
